Diversity
Every person who arrives brings a perspective of the world that enriches the group. It is not a declared value — it is what happens every day in the classroom.
BCNLIP was founded in 2008 in the Barrio Gótico of Barcelona with a clear conviction: learning a language is much more than learning grammar. It is entering a culture, a city, a community. Since then, people from dozens of countries have passed through here, with very different stories and goals — all with something in common.
Mission · Vision
Language is the home of everyone. In it we meet, we get to know each other, we share who we are. In it we have the opportunity to grow and build something new.
Every person who arrives brings a perspective of the world that enriches the group. It is not a declared value — it is what happens every day in the classroom.
Barcelona becomes a meeting space where the student interacts with the city, its inhabitants and people from different cultures, developing an open, critical and respectful perspective towards diversity.
The student learns to interpret, explain and share the cultural reality of Barcelona, acting as a bridge between their own culture, the local culture and other ways of understanding the world.
Not observing Barcelona from the outside, but becoming part of it — its history, its people, its everyday life during the stay.
Every person feels free, respected and supported. Accessible facilities. Prior contact with each student before they start.
Student profile
Adults from all over the world, with very different goals and backgrounds. Some come to settle in Barcelona — to study, work or start a new chapter — and others come for shorter stays to advance in the language. What they share is curiosity, a desire to learn and the wish to live the language, not just study it.
BCNLIP also works with the Fundación BCNLIP to facilitate access for those coming from more economically vulnerable backgrounds.
Learning Spanish or Catalan at BCNLIP means using it from day one. We follow the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and the Instituto Cervantes Curriculum Plan (PCIC). Our approach integrates:
BCNLIP has a Community Standards Programme and a Protocol against sexual and gender-based harassment, which all members of the educational community are required to know.
BCNLIP is a team made up of people from Barcelona, from Catalonia and from many other places around the world. That mix of origins, languages and experiences creates a familiar, open and professional atmosphere.
What unites us is a shared way of understanding teaching: supporting each student with warmth, rigour and humanity. Like the city that hosts us, BCNLIP is a space of encounter, diversity and trust.
Born in Barcelona in 1974. Degree in English and Hispanic Philology from the UB. She founded BCNLIP in 2008 after years of teaching at different schools in the city.
Of all the tasks involved in running a school, the one that matters most to me is connecting with the people who study here. I like to get to know them, understand what they need and support them however I can.
Those who teach at BCNLIP come from different countries and backgrounds — philologists, historians, translators, writers. What they share is vocation, solid training and the conviction that teaching a language goes far beyond the classroom.
Facilities and services
BCNLIP is located at Avinyó, 50 — in the historic centre of Barcelona. The school occupies three carefully renovated historic buildings, with more than 20 classrooms in total. The aesthetic combines historic elements with eco-friendly wood, soft lighting, plants and artwork — a welcoming environment that reflects the spirit of the school.
We could tell you many things — the method, the location, the years of experience. But there is something that can't be fully explained before you experience it. From the very first moment you walk in, something is different. It has to do with how they welcome you, with what happens inside and outside the classroom, with the fact that here people truly matter.

I arrived at BCNLIP and was blown away. Finally a school that adapted to me.
I've learnt so much in such a short amount of time. Definitely the place to study Spanish in Barcelona.
